Knauf Insulation launches
“Thinksulation”
Awareness campaign promotes “green” benefits of fiber glass
insulation

(SHELBYVILLE, Ind., November 13, 2005) Knauf
Insulation today announced the launch of its Thinksulation program,
an awareness initiative that will promote the energy efficiency and
environmental benefits of fiber glass insulation. Knauf
unveiled Thinksulation at the Insulation Contractors Association of
America (ICAA) annual convention in Miami, Florida, September
22-24, and has created a website,
http://www.thinksulation.com/,
that will serve as a resource for homeowners and buyers, builders,
contractors, architects and others.
Thinksulation is based on the extensive array of research
available that tells a compelling story about the “green”
advantages of insulation; for example:
- Insulation installed in U.S. buildings saves more than 42
quadrillion BTUs of energy every year by making heating and cooling
more efficient.
- This translates into $10 billion in annual cost savings in
commercial buildings, while homeowners can see their utility bills
cut up to 48% with proper residential insulation.
- By reducing energy consumption, installed insulation cuts
pollution from the utility infrastructure, slashing carbon dioxide
emissions by 780 million tons every year.
- Fiber glass insulation is also environmentally sustainable
through its life cycle, using post-consumer recycled glass and
renewable resources (sand) in the manufacturing process.
Insulation manufacturers used 2.2 billion pounds of recycled post
consumer glass and blast furnace slag in 2004.
- Many of Knauf’s and other insulation products are certified by
the GREENGUARD Environment Institute, assuring indoor air quality
performance as well.
“Fiber glass insulation is still, far and away, the best
choice for delivering maximum energy efficiency, making homes and
offices more comfortable while saving money and helping
the environment,” said Robert Britton, Knauf’s President &
CEO. “We have a great story to tell, and Thinksulation is our
way to spread the word and encourage the construction industry to
think of insulation first when it thinks about green
building.”
The Thinksulation.com website includes background on the green
benefits of fiber glass insulation, tips on types of insulation and
installation guidelines for homeowners as well as technical
information on energy codes and specification data for builders,
architects and specifying engineers. It also includes
information on programs like energy efficient home mortgages and
tax incentives for energy efficiency available through the Energy
Act of 2005.
“We want Thinksulation.com to be a clearinghouse for
information on fiber glass insulation and green building, as well
as a portal to the best green building sites on the Web,” said
Britton.
In the future, the Thinksulation initiative will include a
variety of marketing materials available to contractors and
builders through Knauf to educate homebuyers and commercial
building owners on the importance of proper insulation to their
pocketbooks – and the environment in general.
