Commercial Construction
Insulation products for commercial
and industrial applications fall into three categories:
- Pipe, board and blanket insulation
- Insulated air duct products
- Insulation for metal buildings
Pipe, Board and Blanket
Insulation
Knauf 1000º Pipe Insulation is a molded, heavy density,
one-piece insulation made from inorganic glass fibers bonded with a
thermosetting resin. It is produced in 3' lengths with or without a
jacket and can be used on systems operating from 0º to 1000ºF (-18º
to 538ºC).

Similar in composition to pipe
insulation, Knauf Insulation Board and Knauf Elevated Temperature
Board, Panels and Blankets are available plain, or with an FSK
(Foil-Scrim-Kraft) facing, PSK (Polypropylene-Scrim-Kraft) facing
or ASJ (All Service Jacketing). They come in a number of densities,
thicknesses, widths and lengths and are used for heating and air
conditioning ducts, power and process equipment, boiler and stack
installations, wall and roof panel systems, tanks, piping, valves,
etc.
I
nsulation and Air Duct
Systems
A critical system in any building is its HVAC system. Fiber
glass insulation is used in air handling systems for acoustical
control, temperature control, condensation control and energy
conservation. The primary types of fiber glass insulated air duct
products are:
Fiber Glass Duct Board
Knauf Air Duct Board is made from resin bonded inorganic glass
fibers. It's widely used in residential and light commercial HVAC
systems. Air duct board provides duct construction and insulation
in a single step. It controls condensation, prevents air leakage,
reduces air turbulence and noise or cross-talk through ducts, and
delivers significant energy savings.
Fiber glass duct liner
Duct liner is adhered to the inside of a sheet metal duct or
plenum, and combines superior sound absorption and excellent
thermal conductivity. For more information about the sound
absorption capabilities of fiber glass, click

Fiber Glass Duct Wrap
Knauf Friendly FeelTM Duct Wrap is a flexible
and resilient blanket available in various thicknesses and
densities used to insulate the exterior of sheet metal duct work.
Duct wrap reduces heat loss or gain, conserves energy and controls
moisture condensation.
Black Acoustical Wall and
Ceiling Liner
Knauf Wall and Ceiling Liner M is a flexible
fiber glass blanket with a black mat facing adhered to one surface.
It provides thermal and acoustical insulation and a visual barrier.
Its smooth, tough surface resists damage during installation. It's
primarily used in theaters, sound studios, public concourses and
other areas where acoustical treatment is needed.
Metal Building Insulation
Knauf Metal Building Insulation is engineered specifically for
metal building construction. It is a fiber glass blanket insulation
that can be faced, or unfaced, depending on where it is used in the
building. It is manufactured in lengths and widths to specifically
fit between the steel girt and purlins found in metal
construction.
- Controls Heat Flow. It acts as a barrier to slow down the
movement of heat either from the outside coming in, or from the
inside going out--reducing energy consumption, and resulting in
lower fuel bills and a cleaner environment.
- Controls Noise. Metal walls and roofs are not good sound
barriers. Metal building insulation greatly reduces the
transmission of exterior sound to the interior of the building and
absorbs noise within the building.
- Prevents Condensation. In most cases, metal building insulation
has a vapor retarder facing which helps to prevent moisture from
condensing in the building structural components.
- Increases Lighting Efficiency. Laminated facings on metal
building insulation provide a bright, attractive wall and ceiling
treatment that acts as a reflector to increase lighting
efficiency.
