Our Sustainability Commitment
Insulation and its
Impact
In residential and commercial buildings, energy efficiency
through insulation is the simplest and most cost effective way to
reduce energy use and greenhouse gas
emissions.1
By reducing energy consumption, it is estimated that insulation
cuts pollution from the utility infrastructure, slashing carbon
dioxide emission by 780 million tons globally every year. This is
the equivalent to the annual electricity use of over 90 million
homes. Knauf Insulation’s goal is to provide products and services
that conserve energy and preserve natural resources for a
sustainable future.
In the average life of a building insulation saves over 1500 times
the energy used in its manufacture.

Our Sustainability
Commitment
To supply sustainable high performance
insulation products for enhanced energy efficiency in buildings, we
continually strive for improvements in both manufacturing
operations and product design.
The result is a track record for products with
leading quality and sustainability benefits. All Knauf Insulation
production locations have state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment
supported by an ongoing research and development program. Some of
our recent achievements include:
- Use of recycled glass bottles (up 50%) in our fiber
glass insulation;
- Reclaimation and reuse vented heat at our factories;
- Development of the most advanced compression packaging
technology in the world to reduce the transport emissions of our
distribution operations, and for our customers;
- Development of revolutionary ECOSE®
Technology to replace petroleum-based chemicals (e.g. phenol and
formaldehyde) used in traditional insulation, leading to a 70%
reduction in binder embodied energy.
As a family-owned company, we’re proud of the
Knauf reputation. Customers worldwide have put their trust in the
quality, consistency and performance or our products and
service.
